Eighties inspired indie-pop duo The Night Society are CLOSEUP Promotion’s Artist Spotlight this week following the release of their latest single ‘Jump’ was released last month (September 25th). The Guildford-based band give us a catch up on their future as well as their favourite festival headliners.

The Night Society! It’s great to have a chat! We love your music as you well know. We’re keen to hear about your live shows, what does a The Night Society live show usually bring?

Hey! Thank you so much for having us, we really appreciate it and we love that you’re enjoying the tunes.

We’d say we bring nostalgic 80’s inspired indie singalong anthems and we are just having the best time on stage and the audience can feel that. We’re dancing, you’re dancing, it’s just a good time.

What part of the musical process do you enjoy most, and why? is it performing live, creating your tracks, or..?

That’s such a tough one. The Night Society started as just the both of us being silly and writing tunes together and that’s still got to be one of our favourite things today. But nothing matches the excitement, adrenaline and joy from playing to a full room of sweaty dancing people.

If you created a The Night Society festival, and could pick three headliners, who would you go for?

Ooo that’s a fun question. We argued for ages about this one, but it has to be Bombay Bicycle Club, The Wombats and Foals. Unashamedly indie classics we know, but come, they bang.

Your latest release, ‘Jump’, was just released in September – nice one! How are you finding releasing music during these strange and weird times?

It’s so crazy and weird. We’d have loved to have played all our new tracks at release parties, but we’ve had so much online support from our fans, and we’ve been so lucky that Spotify have shown us some love and enabled us to reach so many new listeners. We really can’t wait to meet them when shows are a thing again. No matter how wrecked the world is getting, people still love and want music.

If The Night Society could play any support slot at any venue in the world – who would it be and why?

We have always loved Alexandra Palace, there’s something really special about that place. So, to play there would be a dream come true. If we could support anyone, it would have to be the late great David Bowie. He’s such an inspiration and had always been at the forefront of art (and it would just be pretty sick to meet him).

Listen to their latest ‘Jump’ now and you can also let us know what you think by leaving an ICM Star Rating out of 10.
