Hailing from London, synthpop trio LAWRN are Close Up Promotion’s Artist Spotlight this week as the new comers continue to make inroads on the indie landscape. Check out their exclusive interview with them below to get the latest gossip on new music and more!

LAWRN, It’s great to have a chat! We love your music as you well know. We’re keen to hear about your live shows as we’re hosting your next one, supporting milk. at The Grace next Feb! (22nd). What does a LAWRN live show usually bring?

Hey guys! We’re so excited for the milk. show already; thanks a load for having us on it.

Since we started playing shows we’ve always tried to just make as big a sound as possible with three people! We ideally want everyone to just get lost in the music and feel something from what we’re doing;  whether it’s a vibey number or something sad.

We’ve been working really hard over ‘lockdown’ to try and bring a new live show to life as well. We absolutely can’t wait to show that to everyone! Think more energy, more sound and hopefully, more engaging for everyone watching.

What part of the musical process do you enjoy most, and why? is it performing live, creating your tracks, or..?

That’s a really difficult question. To me [Andy], writing and performing are their own things  and both, in turn so rewarding in their own ways.

Sometimes, getting lost in a new idea and emerging from the room hours later is so satisfying; especially when you feel like you’ve got something with potential.

Then taking the tracks to the guys and playing in a live environment is so rewarding as well…just to see the songs come alive with all that energy is amazing.

But you just can’t beat playing live. Watching people connect with your music is so amazing and hearing fans sing your songs back to you is literally the coolest thing!

Your tunes have been listened to tens of thousands of times across the world as Spotify informs us, Spotify is now such a big player in the industry, how important do you think it is for acts like yourself?

Hugely important! It’s such a great platform to discover new music on, especially if you’re into a certain genre – it’s just so easy to find more and more amazing music you’d never heard of before. For a band like us it enables us to be available to fans that we otherwise would never be able to reach. Like, we’re only just starting out really but seeing that someone has listened to your song in Singapore or somewhere is mad.

If you created a LAWRN festival, and could pick three headliners, who would you go for?

Oooo that’s a lot of pressure! This is a democracy so we can all pick one each and see how weird it ends up…

Harm “Depending on the rules and policy of the festival; either Nirvana or… 50Cent”

Ollie “Deftones, every day.”

Andy “That would probably go better with Nirvana, but I’m gonna change it up anyway. I’m going for Bruce Hornsby because then I can ask him if I can play ‘The Way It Is’ with him. Dream come true.”

Tell us a little about any new music you’ve written in lockdown, when should we be expecting it?!

Lockdown was actually so productive for us. The lead track from this run, ‘Like Forever’ was half recorded before lockdown so we had to finish off bits; the challenge was learning to mix it all remotely!

After that, ‘The Westside’ was actually completely written, recorded and produced seperately in lockdown and we literally hadn’t played it together until yesterday! We’re just finishing off the third single now so that will be out in early November. It’s probably the only thing that’s kept us sane in lockdown, but it’ll be ready to hear soon.
