The vibrant and tropical indie band KAWALA make the ICM Ones To Watch 2021 series as their well-defined indie folk and alt pop.
Since starting out as a duo in 2015, the London-based band first made their mark in 2018 with ‘Do It Like You Do’ and have since been churning out banger after banger.
KAWALA are melody-focused so their music is always infectious with booming harmonies and afrobeat style drums puts the five-piece (Jim Higson (Lead Vocals) Daniel McCarthy (Guitar, Vocals) Ben Batten (Drums) Reeve Coulson (Bass) Dan Lee (Guitar)) in a unique position.
Last year they were keeping themselves busy with a third, self-titled, EP and two singles ‘Ticket To Ride’ and ‘Pure Desire / Loosen Up’. The latter features in the legendary FIFA 21 game and all three featured on the band’s first ever vinyl.
KAWALA are the epitome of sunny indie-pop adventures and you will feel the escapism when listening to their catalogue of songs. 2021 will be another exciting year and it shouldn’t be too much longer before the UK, nay the world, knows their name as well.
