All-new Southend-based project BLAB is someone you need to get behind as she drops her sophomore single ‘Casual Sex’.

Multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter Frances Murray AKA BLAB kicked her career off with ‘R.I.P’ in July last year which was instantly widely supported by the radio community with airplay from Radio X, BBC Music & Amazing Radio.

Not every artist is fortunate to get that opportunity so that’s already a telltale sign that we could be onto something special here. For BLAB, her colloquialisms encompass intellect, empowerment and riot grrrl attitude.

‘Casual Sex’ is an awesome number with a sassy, sardonic and savage combination of wicked guitar riffs. It’s about knowing that the person you’re seeing doesn’t give a shit about you but still seeing them anyway even though it makes you feel crap.

Frances describes the release of her new single as “an ode to the dilemmas of single life”.

She adds: “We’ve all been in a situation where you start seeing someone and there’s an ambiguity around where you stand with them and it all becomes a bit messy.

“This song is about as honest and blunt as you can get. I love the weight of the line ‘Casual sex makes me feel depressed,’ I feel like it sets the sarcastic and self destructive tone of the song.

“Instrumentally and lyrically I love it, it’s one of my favourite songs I’ve written to date; honest, hard-hitting and hooky.”

BLAB is currently working on her debut album with Sam Duckworth (Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly) and Rees Broomfield (SS2 Recording). We can’t wait to see what’s in store.
