The Hunna @ Brixton Academy

The Hunna

Hertfordshire indie rockers The Hunna wrapped up their UK tour with their biggest headline shows to date with two nights at the iconic Brixton Academy.

The support came courtesy of American alt-rock band Night Riots and label buddies Coasts. First up was Night Riots who I hadn’t heard of before however really came to like throughout their half-hour set. Charismatic frontman Travis excited the predominantly female crowd by unbuttoning his shirt and overall the whole band did an excellent job interacting with the crowd and well and truly got everyone hyped for what was to come.

Coasts are definitely a fan favourite having supported The Hunna before so they were an excellent choice – their sound is very similar to that of The Hunnas with its light riffs and catchy lyrics. They were knocking out some of their most well-known tracks including the massive hits ‘Oceans’ and ‘Your Soul’. I have to admit I enjoyed these guys – the crowd went so crazy for these guys that you could’ve believed that it was their show.

Then it was time for The Hunna, you could feel the anticipation building amongst the five thousand strong crowd. They hit the stage slightly later than expected with the lead single ‘Summer’ from their upcoming album ‘Dare’ (due for release 25th May via High Time records). Before working through the well-loved tracks from their 2016 debut album ‘100’ with a couple of new tracks thrown in there as well including ‘Flickin’ Your Hair’ that debuted the day before. ‘She’s Casual’ the biggest crowd pleaser of the night with the fan lead vocals that lit the room up.

They had a fantastic onstage presence that totally captivated the audience and there was a real sense of community within the crowd that was really nice to see. The production of the show was very visually pleasing with lasers, neon lights and confetti all of which that kept it interesting in such a large venue.

Seeing these guys live really made me see the potential they have and I’m super excited to hear the album. ‘Dare’ is out on the 25th of May, you can pre-order it on all formats HERE.
