The Wattles create alluring and powerful indie folk-rock

Newly formed Australian, indie rock band The Wattles have dropped their new single ‘Invisibility’.

The Wattle – who’ve signed to Disc Wars Records – are made up of Lucy, James, Charlie and Max. James and Lucy originally being a duo and at the beginning of 2020, welcoming Charlie and Max to become The Wattles where they began to explore an indie rock sound.

‘Invisibility’ is the first single they have written and recorded together as a new group. It has a real folk feel to it with a really strong female vocal on the track.

The song came about when the band’s vocalist Lucy Murray “wondered what it would be like to secretly walk through places that had always intimidated her”.

Lucy then goes on to dislike the feeling of being inanimate and a bystander at the end of the song despite the power of invisibility being alluring to her to face these fears. The lyrics are stunning and are a great mixture alongside the strong vocals. The perfect combination. The track was produced and mastered by Lee McDonald and Ryan Papa.

Lucy’s vocals are so smooth they really are lovely to listen too, they are so powerful yet soft and fit really well over the top of the indie track that features the sounds of a 70’s electric organ along with a resonator guitar. This gives it such a unique sound and it really does ring through for the duration of the song. The drumbeat is also really enjoyable, which they describe as being similar to a ‘marching band’ and this gives it a really big lift in the more upbeat sections of the track.

The change of tempo and the rise and fall of the drumbeat throughout the track really makes it interesting and keeps you on your toes when listening. If this is one of the first tracks they’ve done together it makes us very excited to hear more. If you are a fan of indie and folk music you’ll love Invisibility.
