The Royston Club change the pace for new single ‘Coasting’

Four young lads on a mission for total indie rock domination, The Royston Club deliver a sweet and bouncy single ‘Coasting’.

Hotly tipped as an ICM Ones To Watch 2021 artist, the Wrexham quartet share their first release since announcing an inked deal with UK labels Run On Records & Modern Sky UK.

Following up on the gritty and snarling ‘Mrs Narcissistic’, The Royston Club change the mood in the room with a fun slice of melodic rock with flamboyant guitar riffs and vocals that have lost their sharp edges for a more subtle tone.

The change of pace is quite refreshing and offers a different side to the band; just cementing the case further that these lads are an all-rounded bunch.

Songwriter and guitarist Ben Matthias says on ‘Coasting’: “It’s about a time a couple of years ago when I wasn’t really doing much and was just ‘coasting’ through life, hence the name.

“It’s a pretty personal song but I think it’s one that a lot of people will be able to relate to, especially with the lockdowns we’ve had this year.”

Despite the tracks title, The Royston Club aren’t coasting these days. They have been back recording with producer Alex Quinn (The Blinders, Spinn, SPQR) at Parr Studios.

Ben wrote ‘Coasting’ as a simple song on his acoustic guitar – but at Parr Street with Alex, the band are moving into exciting new territory.

“We recorded using baritone guitars, 12 strings and gang vocals – techniques we never used before,’ says Ben.

Looking ahead to the summer, the band will be heading out on tour through July and August for their debut tour. They’ve already sold well over 1,500 tickets and several dates have sold out.
