Narcissus return with energising synth-driven alt rock

Dark alt rock outfit Narcissus have just dropped the first of their new singles, ‘Lost Causes’, ahead of a debut album next year.

The trio from Manchester comprise of Ben Guy (Vocals, Guitar), Lee Mulvey (Guitar, Bass) and Chris James (Drums, Percussion) and create a synth-driven blend of dark wave alt rock and electronica.

Narcissus originally formed back in the mid-noughties and tipped for huge success. However, that was halted when a dispute over publishing rights led to the band splitting up. Now over a decade later, they’re back exactly how they left things off.

‘Lost Causes’ is a funky track with energised beats and bold soundscapes. Majestic melodies back up the single which puts the experienced band back on the map.

The track “speaks to the feeding frenzy driving a golden age of ego as self-appointed ‘authorities on everything’ run riot in the echo chambers of social media with little more insight than graffiti on a toilet wall”.

In 2019 the trio released a double AA side ‘Burning Candles/Flashing Blue Lights’ and followed this up this year with ‘Our City’.

Co-produced with A Certain Ratio legend Donald Johnson, who also contributes percussion & backing vocals, ‘Lost Causes’ is influenced by the classic hip-hop of Grandmaster Flash & Young MC through ACR themselves to LCD Soundsystem and Chic.
