Kid Bloom drops sonic pop EP ‘Blood Sugar’

Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Kid Bloom has returned with his new EP ‘Blood Sugar’.

Crafting a signature style of indie pop, Lennon Kloser’s fuzzed-out, psychedelic approach has been racking up the streams and since his 2019 EP Lemonhead, there’s no stopping this talented artist.

‘Blood Sugar’ kicks off the EP with a bubbly neon production and fuzziness of Tame Impala’s 2012 Lonerism in its approach. Through the use of new beats, heavy synth bass and atmospheric pads, the track hits you with a powerful palate of sounds whilst Kid Bloom’s silky vocals handclap and harmonise a serious rumination on his personal struggle with type 1 Diabetes.

“Blood Sugar is all about highs and lows,” said Lennon. “My favourite part about it is how sticky the bass is. I’ve always wanted to make a song like this, but never quite had the courage. It’s the farthest I’ve ever been out of my comfort zone musically.”

The hip-hop beat-work, and psychedelic guitars on tracks ‘Sledgehammer’ and ‘Wounded/Surrounded’ emit emissions that revolve around unfiltered honesty. Slick synths and sparse bass entwine with 808s as his dynamic vocals echo above a glitchy beat.

The track hinges on confessions like, ‘I get so lost in my devotion,’ as his voice rings out. Meanwhile, Kid Bloom also joins forces with Jesse Rutherford of The Neighbourhood on the hypnotic ‘In One Ear.’

Kid Bloom’s sonic palette, steeped in influences as varied as Tame Impala, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Big Star, and David Bowie. But most songs off the EP are in fact quite similar in sound and not much variation in each track. Yes, each song fairs well on its own, but I feel more experimentation is needed.
