English Teacher is the new Leeds sensation you must hear!

Shining a new light onto Leeds’ vibrant indie rock scene is English Teacher, one of the most exciting new artists to emerge.

The alt rock four-piece shared pulsating new single ‘R&B’ earlier this year, which fuses several of the band’s musical influences to create a dynamic and driving sonic experience.

From raw, distorted guitar and bass reminiscent of Sonic Youth and Slint, to white-knuckle drums and assertive and chilling vocals not too dissimilar to Wolf Alice, ‘R&B’ is a cocktail of sound showcasing English Teacher’s versatility and creativity.

Discussing the origins of their new release, the group revealed: “‘R&B’ is about the cyclical, productivity-diminishing paradox of low self-esteem and imposter syndrome-induced writer’s block that then fuels low self-esteem and imposter syndrome.

“It’s also about racial identity and putting the love that you have to offer a potential romantic partner back into yourself.”

Comprising of Lily Fontaine (vocals, rhythm guitar, synth), Douglas Frost (drums, synth), Nicholas Eden (bass, synth), Lewis Whiting (lead guitar, synth), the group formed English Teacher whilst studying in Leeds – where they remained harnessing their craft.

Working alongside legendary producer Ken Scott (The Beatles, David Bowie, Elton John), English Teacher are in the perfect position to become a force of nature. Sighting inspiration from social issues, literature and wit for their brand new material, the band are ones to keep an eye on.
