Benjamino delivers eclectic mix of funky indie pop

Hidden away in Wollongong, New South Wales, there’s an artist called Benjamino who’s just knocked out his third single ‘Clutching at Shadows’.

The Australian singer-songwriter produces an unmissable eclectic mix of soul, funk and indie pop that’s catchy as hell with its powerful beat and smooth vocals that have a tinge to King No-One. With a seven-piece band behind him for live shows too, you certainly don’t want to be missing out on these atmospheric, eye-catching events.

Recorded in self-isolation, ‘Clutching at Shadows’ follows up on his first two singles, ‘To My Future Self’ and ‘Big Things To Come’ as Benjamino announces he will have a debut EP out this year titled Open Up The Vault.

He has created a head-bopping, stank face-pulling track about unrequited friendship and determination for stronger self-worth. The lyrics focus on the imbalance within friendships, and the need for one to realise when thoughtfulness and attention to someone who isn’t being reciprocated. For anyone who feels more like they’re an acquaintance to their close friend, this song is for you!

With his trademark mix of electronic synth textures and prominent horn lines floating over an incredibly funky rhythm section, ‘Clutching at Shadows’ can be placed in-between the sounds of Nick Murphy (FKA Chet Faker) and Mark Ronson. Once again, Benjamino is about to make you tap your foot and think about life at the same time.
