BLVFF

An introduction to… BLVFF

Welcome to an introduction to BLVFF. The dark indie pop collective has just released their latest single ‘Want for Nothing’ today (April 24) so we decided to catch up with the band to see how they’ve been getting on.

Lockdown has put all live aspects on hold for the foreseeable future, but one pro means artists and bands have more time to hone on their songwriting capabilities and simply get as much written down as possible.

Frontman Michael McCann said: “We’re coming at songwriting from a different angle, sending ideas back and forth and making real progress. However, it also meant our long awaited studio session with our master producer/ music sensei/ badminton coach Matt Terry had to be postponed, but we’ll be back in the studio first chance we get after badminton.

“In the meantime, we have a few things we’re putting together for the coming days/ weeks to keep the isolated populations out there listening.”

New release ‘Want for Nothing’ (currently on The Indie ‘Lockdown’ Playlist) sees the Coventry-based five-piece dive straight into rugged, yet rhythmic guitar licks and Michael’s powerful and punchy vocals shine through like a hot knife through butter.

Discussing the single further, Michael said: “‘Want for Nothing is a big one for us. It came together pretty easily as far as songwriting goes which is (for us at least) usually a sign we’re on the right path.

“Recording at VADA is always a big high for us, the tune came out great, and we have every confidence it’ll be making a big noise out there.”

Influenced by modern artists like Arctic Monkeys, Blossoms and Tame Impala, Michael says there is a lot of common ground when it comes to their individual tastes. They also pride themselves on listening to emerging contemporary guitar bands coming up through the ranks.

All of BLVFF’s music on Spotify has hit a combined total of 100,000 streams which is a good milestone to hit for a DIY band like BLVFF. From debut single ‘Where Did We Go Wrong’ to now, the band have been truly grateful for the response so far.

“How many streams have we had this week then..? If you’re counting… Sorry, we like ‘The Office’,” jokes Michael. “Spotify is ace! We owe a lot of amazing personal band discoveries to that lovely little app, and for us as new artists, it means the world that people can access our stuff so easily.

“100K means people are liking and sharing, which warms our little hearts.”

Once the global pandemic comes to an end, we can expect BLVFF to come back stronger with music and more.

Michael commented: “Something we all share a passion for is staying at home and washing our hands.

“When the coast is clear we’ll be stepping our game up once again, playing bigger shows, recording more tunes and sharing our gratitude with anyone and everyone that’s along for the ride.”
