Winchester 7 & the Runners embrace ukuleles to fuse together garage and indie rock

There aren’t many well-known artists out there using ukuleles, but for Winchester 7 & the Runners they are uprooting that stigma.

Started by Georgia-based musician Winchester 7, he is accompanied in this project by the Runners, made up of Phil Voorhees (bass) from Amsterdam, and Britonian Jack Kane (drums). Their fusion of garage rock and indie rock has a twang of traditional American rock and that typical lo-garage sound.

The Winchester 7 & the Runners gang have recently shared their first EP Argos Holiday which includes new single ‘My Super 8’. Jangly ukulele notes are seen throughout the nine tracks with Jack and Phil’s drums and bass support the ear-catching melodies.

Other tracks featuring on Argos Holiday are the punchy rhythmic number ‘When the World Stops Spinning’ and sonic anthem ‘The Saint Simon Killer’ which was produced by the legendary Stuart Epps (Elton John, Led Zeppelin, George Harrison, etc).

You can instantly feel the professionalism through their music and getting the full sonic landscape of their diverse garage rock. It only takes a few notes to acclimate yourself to their particular brand of indie rock. This track captures you from the get-go, and continues to grow on each new encounter.

The ukulele sits well along some innovative atmospheric sounds creeping in the background giving it a truly unique tone. The vocals draw the listener in close as a slightly dark vibe of the story is felt. This is powerful music from an interesting group of musicians and breaks away from the conventional guitar-based “indie band”.
