The Cheap Thrills craft a bitter-sweet indie beauty

Beaming guitar parts and deft melodies sit front and centre on The Cheap Thrills’ latest release.

The rapidly rising Liverpudlian four-piece have released their debut EP ‘Mind Metro’ which includes the latest single ‘Calypso Blue’.

Having formed in a Walton basement in 2010, Lewis Pike (vocals /guitar), Anton Eager (drums/percussion), Terry Eaves (guitar/keyboard/synth) and Callum Fitzpatrick (bass), continue writing indie-rock that transcends their modest beginnings.

Supporting Circa Waves, the DMA’s and The Night Café doesn’t come about by accident, right? It’s no surprise, then, that the ‘Liverpool Band of the Year’ have released a single which is worthy of such sought after opening slots.

Calypso Blue (with its accompanying music video) follows previous singles ‘Last Orders’ and ‘Escape’ – all of which find a home on the new ‘Mind Metro’ EP.

This latest Thrills single strikes with warm and twinkling guitars and lovable melodies. The song writing does all the heavy lifting here, and that’s the charm; It’s the type of song which effortlessly favours substance over style. On the surface, it’s a summer road trip soundtrack, or a companion for a hazy July morning. Interestingly, the lyrics paint a darker picture where Pike wistfully sings about losing someone close and yearns for togetherness. This is a pensive closer to their debut EP.

Turning heads with their debut single Codependence back in 2018, the band soundtracked Liverpool FC’s kit campaign and caused chaos with hotel secret sets.

The Cheap Thrills have already celebrated their EP release with a sold-out headline show at Liverpool’s ‘Content’ and will be blaring their indie anthems across European festival fields later this year.
