Spirits Republic express musical finesse with a DIY alt rock edge

Nashville alternative rockers Spirits Republic bring out their sensitive side for new release ‘City Lights’ as the trio talk breakups.
Comprised of Russell Somer (Vocals, Guitar), Ricky DeMeo (Bass) and Perry Dornbush (Drums), the outfit doesn’t hold back with their DIY sound as they express musical finesse and catchy songwriting with an alt rock edge.
‘City Lights’ isn’t your cliché sappy breakup song as frontman Russell Somer expresses his emotions through musical twists and turns paired with lyrics that paint a vivid picture of a reflective state of mind.
The airy, dreamlike verses are cut off abruptly by the distorted guitar which propels into an emotive chorus with a catchy hook that will rattle around your head for days with lyrics “Oh, these City Lights, burning bright enough to feel the cold grip on my heart”.
On the track, Russell added: “It’s a relatable phrase that echoes truth, especially now in the world’s current hardships. To elevate the song even further, a full choir drenched in reverb can be heard during the bridge which then leads to a lyrical guitar solo worthy of praise.”
Spirits Republic are quickly picking up momentum in their home state and with their ‘City Lights’ single, these characteristics absolutely hold true. The band have a new track titled ‘On and Bound’ due in the coming months so keep an eye on their social channels for that. In the meantime, listen below and leave an ICM Star Rating out of 10!
