Only The Poets warm hearts with new single ‘Waking In The Dark’

Independent and young British band Only The Poets has come back, after a period of silence, with their strongest single yet;  ‘Waking In The Dark’.

The ICM Ones To Watch 2020 artist have proven to be dynamic and thoughtful with this track. The song is about one’s struggles which, sometimes, look insurmountable but, in reality, they are just a small obstacle. This is what I call comfort music: the melody is not too elaborate nor too simple, but the song itself emanates a warm and understanding feeling, enhances by the catchy guitar in the background. Singer Tommy’s voice is as clear as ever and his songwriting has made a relevant leap, this single is for sure the band’s most valid yet.

It is true, life can be tricky and full of surprises, but with some luck and music like this nothing is impossible to overcome. ‘Waking In The Dark’ is different from their previous singles – such as ‘Dead Young’ – but it is just as relevant and credible. And, to be honest, if this is the direction their debut album is following, we are in for a very strong record. Only The Poets are for sure a band we should all keep our eyes on: even if they have had a slow start, they will go far, I am sure.

With a heart-wrenching chorus, characterised by strained vocals, Only The Poets leave a mark not only in our hearts but also in the indie landscape. I cannot fathom why a band with such great potential is still unsigned but, let me tell you, this won’t be the last time you will hear the name Only The Poets.
