Modern Age Music Song of the Day: The Rills – ‘The Angler’

Lincoln trio The Rills have today dropped new single ‘The Angler’, the band’s first release of 2020 as they build towards their debut EP.
The new track opens with a hint of Arctic Monkeys, that attention-grabbing guitar sound and stop-start rhythm section. ‘The Angler’ is just over three minutes of catchy, dance-along indie, with clever lyrics, catchy riffs, and supremely tight rolling rhythm section.
Based on the waning typecast of weekend-moshers they’ve met growing-up, lead singer Mitch Spencer describes how the protagonist in ‘The Angler’ is a facade; lacking honesty, integrity, and self-awareness: “He has it all to blame but himself. The Angler is desperate to have a real connection with someone, but, when he acts like this, his life is turning to shit.”
The Rills play The Grace in London on November 10th. Tickets are available HERE.
