Lucas AB woven in synth pop layers and dreamy indie pop

Deeply-woven in synth layers, instrumentation, and vocal performance, New York City artist Lucas AB combines these to create moody, driving songs that bridge between relaxed dance motifs and introspective lyricism.
Known to his friends as Lucas Baumgart, ‘Only Over is his latest single. It’s a dreamy, science-fiction-like song that has a driving atmosphere which trenchantly captures the weird feeling you get when suspended between nostalgia, a recognition of being “in the moment”, and the awareness of an uncharted future to come.
The American musician pulls his inspiration from acts such as Perfume Genius, Joanna Newsom, Neutral Milk Hotel, and The National to create a genre-defining sound that’s long-lasting. ‘Only Over’ is to be part of an upcoming EP where Lucas AB looks to make sense of the world and to find himself in it.
Recorded and produced at the height of the pandemic lockdown, Lucas said the song is the “sentiment of being ‘out of time’ resonates deeply with the prevailing themes of living in a pandemic: high nostalgia, listlessness, and longing”.
Close friends of Lucas, who produce for Warner Music artists, collaborated on the last project to shine the spotlight on his pop influences. Lucas’s new, self-produced, work is a challenge for himself to see if he can create music that stays true to himself.
