Larkins share synth-ladened single ‘Are We Having Fun Yet?’

Larkins

Having gained considerable momentum throughout 2019, Larkins aim to make 2020 their biggest year yet. Their February EP Hit & Run gained considerable acclaim, and now they’ve followed it up with their latest single ‘Are We Having Fun Yet?’, the title track from their forthcoming album.

The single is an excellent indication of their growth as musicians, with the track opening with light synth touches, developing it’s engrossing atmosphere. It continually builds to it’s anthemic chorus, backed by a thumping bass line and crushing drums. Fans will be familiar with the single from past live shows, but it’s clear that the song has benefited from time in the studio.

Produced by LA producers Dan Nigro and Andrew Dawson, the track is enhanced throughout by excellent touches like the choral voices on the chorus, the gliding synths and the beefy wall of sound.

Lyrically, frontman Josh Noble has taken a significant step forward in his craft. The track unfolds a detailed and heartfelt look at the monotony and depression that arises from everyday life, and the struggles that come along for the ride. It forms a harrowing tale that provides food for thought for the listener while they fall further into the track’s sweeping soundscape.

‘Are We having Fun Yet?’ Is a great sign of things to come from the ICM Ones To Watch 2020 artist, creating a thoughtful anthem that suggests they’re ready to step out of the simple band sound and move into new territory.
