Following up on their debut EP ‘Surprise Lights’, Chicago-based quartet Koalra are back with new single ‘Tell Me I’m Not’.

It’s the second single from the band’s upcoming album called The Wakes which fires a hyperactive feel that is full of mood and energy.

Fusing the grotty, fuzz-fuelled guitars and loose rhythms of acts like Dinosaur Jr. to the energetic and experimental soundscapes of artists such as Sonic Youth and Ween, Koalra have added more atmospherics to ‘Tell Me I’m Not’.

Compared to some of the heavier work on their debut EP, the vocals on this track are more echoey and the riffs are soaked in a wet Lo-Fi sheen.

Rising out of a garage music project in their hometown, the band is comprised of four friends who are all influenced by similar bands. Creating a noise-fest of uplifting, yet thrashing guitar tracks and drearily sincere, grungy vocal melodies.

Nodding to grotty, distorted walls of sound with rhythmic and dreamy lo-fi, Koarla are quickly becoming a stand-out alt rock band. You can also watch an official video for the single here.
