Gurriers press photo for 'Des Goblin'

Irish rockers Gurriers hit you with venomous punk-rock

Since their first gig on Halloween 2021, Irish five-piece Gurriers have fast established themselves as one of the most furiously exciting bands coming out of Ireland in the last few years.

Armed with an intensely heavy, psych-punk groove with an unmistakable breakdown, the band has released new single ‘Des Goblin’. The fourth single is a well-established live favourite that never fails to cause absolute mayhem on the dancefloor.

Gurriers formed during the pandemic as they rise from the hyper-active furnace pit of the post-punk scene in Ireland. Consisting of friends and roommates Dan Hoff, Ben O’Neill, Mark MacCormack, Pierce Callaghan, and Charlie McCarthy. Charlie replaces Emmet White who departs the band on amicable terms. Charlie has previously played live with Gurriers, standing in for Emmet last year for festival shows at Haldern Pop in Germany and Off in Poland.

The band’s latest single ‘Des Goblin’ is the perfect raging combination of punk, noise, alt-rock and shoegaze. Reverberating guitars, epic melodies, and vocals bursting with snotty self-confidence bind the Gurriers’ songwriting into a sound created for those nights where the sweat literally drips off the walls.

Speaking of the new single, Dan Hoff said: “‘Des Goblin’ is about apathy and self-obsession in the face of impending destruction, particularly to do with the effects of climate change and war and people being too obsessed with themselves and their online personas to be able to see the wood for the trees. Musically we pulled from further afield than previously, and really leaned in on our dance influences as well as a more fluent spoken word style vocal.”

The accompanying video directed by one of the band’s guitarists, Ben, is a nightmarish end of the world fever dream, interwoven with a performance from Hoff. Be warned, it may be a challenging watch for those sensitive to flashing images.

If you like what you hear, you can watch Gurriers live at a number of major festivals this year including SXSW Festival in Austin. All Tickets are available here.
