Arliston revel in beautiful melodic alt pop

Atmospheric rock trio Arliston return with their first single of 2020 with another beautifully textured track ‘South’.
This song is particularly special to frontman Jack. It was written whilst on tour in Canada and originally had the working title of ‘Stranger Things’ until the last day of mixing.
‘South’ features hazy crepuscular riffs and is built on a real 80s nostalgia. The sleek choruses are a contrast from the chaotic downbeat of the verse, creating something unusual but brilliantly compelling.
There is also a darker side to the songs creation as Jack explains: “I nearly died! It sounds ridiculous, but I managed to get Shingles whilst out in Canada and had to be rushed to A&E when our plane landed, to stop it from turning into full blown Encephalitis.
“So about 90 percent of this song was written whilst I was in the foothills of the illness. But I think it paid off!”
Lyrically the song centres around a theme of amassed damage, how tiny acts of destruction can add up to something far worse than the sum of its parts.
Or as Jack describes “It’s really about the question; at what point is there too much layered scar tissue to keep moving forward in a relationship?” An idea that most will be able to relate to.
